Traditional Grading is Dead!

When I was a kid, giving norm-based assessments was all the rage. These were assessments based on ranking and comparing test-takers with other test-takers. In my case, it was Iowa students (no offense, Iowa), because we use the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in Michigan.

We also used to base grades on products (tests, quizzes, projects, homework) that students turned in rather than on the level of proficiency these products demonstrated.

Teachers couldn't act upon the data without drilling deep assessment by assessment, student by student. Because of this, students were left behind.

Many states and districts have been making the push for standards-based grading practices.

For many of us, this move is scary as it's nothing like we went through in school and it's so different from what we've been doing in our classes for years.

But it doesn't have to be so scary!

Join me in this webinar and I'll walk you through the basics of standards-based grading and how to implement it in your classroom.

Hi, I'm Scott.

I'm a teacher just like you!

When I started teaching back in 2001, I was grading all wrong.

And because of this, I had students earning Cs or better who just couldn't do any language.

But because they were good at completing their homework and making really "pretty" projects, they were able to pull their grades up.

Sound familiar?

Starting my second year of teaching, I started the long and hard journey towards standards-based grading and haven't looked back.

Let me show you how to make the transition and how to avoid the pitfalls along the way.

LET'S TALK STANDARDS-BASED GRADING!
